    Was a very important man in early Wilkinson County history. One of the census districts was named 'Lord's District'. He was a very large land owner, and had served in the Revolutionary War under General Lafayette. In 1825, General Lafayette visited his old troops in Wilkinson County. William Lord was one of the veteran's that he met with. Apparently, this visit prompted all of the 'Lafayette' names that were given to boys born in Wilkinson County about that time.
